Ferb
Dear UPAWS Staff,
My name is Allie Page. I am a student at NMU, living in a campus apartment with my partner, Sean. I am not sure if you guys remember us, but we adopted Ferb, the cat, last July. I am writing this email to tell you that adopting Ferb is one of the best things that have ever happened to me.
Ferb was a very shy cat when we first brought him home, but it was obvious from the moment we met him that he really wanted love and human connection. Within a couple days, he was coming out from under my bed, and he would sleep in my bed with me at night. He was very skittish, but he seemed to trust me a lot.
Within a couple weeks, Ferb had claimed the whole downstairs as his home. He was curious and playful, and he would frequently flop at our feet to get his belly rubbed. When the pets would start, he would roll around and basically just melt.
It took a couple months and a lot of encouragement, but eventually Ferb braved the upstairs. This is where our living room is (the bedrooms are downstairs), so Ferb got to start hanging out with us in the evenings, when we listen to music or watch TV and just chill together. I think this was a huge turning point for Ferb because he was really able to become part of the family. Honestly, bringing Ferb into our home felt like beginning our family.
Having Ferb as my ESA these past 9 months has been a wonderful experience. Within the first couple weeks of having him, I felt like we had struck gold with such a sweet cat; I didn’t even know the level of love and trust this cat was capable of. Since then, he’s only continued to open up and trust us more. He is almost always down for a snuggle, and he is very tolerant of being picked up (even when he doesn’t seem particularly enthusiastic). Nowadays, his favorite things are head kisses, playing with the laser pointer, watching the birds out the window (especially when his mom holds him up to the window so he gets simultaneous snuggles), tummy rubs, finding hidden treats around the house, and getting a little bite of his dad’s scrambled eggs each morning (no seasoning).
Ferb was a shy cat with a big heart, and I am so glad that we’ve created the right home for him to thrive in. I’ve attached some recent pictures of him, so you guys can see his happy self.
