Dog Adoption Information
We’re excited to welcome walk-in adopters!
No appointment is needed to meet our adoptable pets during our regular open hours.
Important Exception – Current Puppy Group 6/23/26
The current puppy group on June 23, 2026, is NOT available for walk-in visits.
Due to their ongoing veterinary care and additional placement requirements, these puppies are available only through an Adoption Interest Form Application (link at the bottom of the page). Our staff will carefully review all Adoption Interest Form applications and contact selected applicants to discuss the puppies’ needs and schedule visits.
This exception applies only to the current puppy group and is not our standard dog adoption process.
All other dog interests:
Step 1: Complete the Required Adoption Interest Form
An Adoption Interest Form is required before meeting any adoptable animal at UPAWS. You can save time by completing it online before you arrive or filling it out when you get to the shelter. The Interest Form link is at the bottom of this page.
Step 2: Meet the Dog(s)
Once your Adoption Interest Form has been submitted, a member of our staff will help you meet the dog(s) you’re interested in.
During busy periods, staff may limit the length of meet-and-greets to ensure everyone has a fair opportunity to visit with the dogs.
Step 3: Find Your Match
Our staff will answer your questions, share everything we know about the dog, and help you determine whether it’s the right fit for your home and lifestyle.
Step 4: Complete Your Adoption
Adoptions are first-come, first-served, and first approved.
Once you’ve found your match, we’ll complete the adoption paperwork and send you home with your newest family member.
Dog-to-Dog Introductions
If you currently have a dog at home and are interested in adopting another dog, a dog-to-dog introduction is required before the adoption can be finalized. Our staff will guide you through this process to help ensure the best possible match for both dogs.
Additional Adoption Requirements
Some dogs have additional adoption requirements based on their individual needs. These requirements will be noted in their profile, and our staff will be happy to explain any additional steps.
Additional requirements may include:
- Additional meet-and-greets
- Medical consultations or ongoing care requirements
- Special care considerations
- Other placement requirements specific to that dog
Every Dog Adoption Includes
