Earlier this week, UPAWS was granted ownership of 16 Bloodhounds through the court process.

On Friday, all 16 dogs were safely transferred into the care of a Bloodhound rescue organization. The organization will oversee their continued care and place each dog into an adoptive home that best meets their individual needs.

These dogs are not available for adoption through UPAWS.

This outcome gives every Bloodhound the opportunity to begin a new chapter with a rescue experienced in the breed and committed to finding the right home for each dog.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to the Bloodhound rescue organization that stepped forward to help these dogs, as well as to Animal Medical Center of Marquette and Stuga North Veterinary Care for their immediate assistance with the Bloodhounds’ surgeries. We are also deeply grateful to our community and supporters for your patience, encouragement, and compassion throughout this case.

As this chapter comes to a close, our staff is focused on cleaning, regrouping, and returning to normal shelter operations following both the recent parvo outbreak and the care of these 16 dogs.

Beginning Tuesday, July 28, Marquette County residents who need to surrender a dog may call UPAWS to schedule an appointment. Please call first, as dog surrenders will be accepted by scheduled appointment only.
