UPAWS Receives Record Donation from Thrivent Choice Dollars

MARQUETTE, Mich. – March 22, 2016 – The Upper Peninsula Animal Welfare Shelter (UPAWS) recently announced a record year for donations coming from the Choice Dollars program offered by Thrivent Financial.  Each year Thrivent allows their members to designate dollars to eligible non-profit organizations and donates those dollars on behalf of the members.

“It’s a very important part of who we are as an organization,” said Walker Derby of Thrivent Financial.  “Being able to give back to our community means a lot not only to the groups who are receiving the dollars, but to our members as well.”

UPAWS is a no-kill shelter for animals of all kinds and is located in Negaunee Township; the shelter boasted a 100% adoption rate last year.  The dollars donated to UPAWS help keep the animals cared for, help pay for veterinary care, and assist with daily operations.  The yearly total for Thrivent Choice giving in 2015 is $5,558, up considerably from 2014.  For more information about the work UPAWS does or the animals they have for adoption, please contact the shelter at 906 475 6661 or on the web at upaws.org.
