Girl Scout Cadette Troop 5002 Silver Award Project
Troop Raises $773 for UPAWS Pink Lady” Hope for Healing Emergency Vet Fund!
Troop 5002 consists of nine girls between the ages of twelve and fourteen who all live in Marquette. They chose UPAWS and the Pink Lady: Hope For Healing Fund as their Silver Award project. The Silver Award is the highest award that a Cadette level troop can earn (Juniors achieve Bronze and Seniors Gold). It requires reaching out to a community agency to help create more community awareness of that agency. As our girls all loved animals and wanted to raise money for the new shelter, they chose UPAWS. A new building is a while away from being constructed, so UPAWS Ann Brownell suggested the Pink Lady fund that provides money for emergency animal medical care and the girls said yes!
To raise money, the girls held a pop can and bottle drive during the Spring. They plastering a neighborhood with fliers about the collection, picking up the donations and sorting them out which took the better part of a day. On another beautiful day, the girls sold hot dogs and brats at a local grocery store and earned more money for their Pink Lady donation.
Originally the girls planned to host a pet fair to raise awareness of injured animal needs with the public, but as we were also raising funds for a trip to Washington DC this summer. Time got away from us, and we resorted to personal collections in our neighborhoods for items on the UPAWS wish list. We also put the word out about the wish list and the Pink Lady fund by stuffing 200 goody bags for Strut Your Mutt. We had a collection point for goods and cash donations at another local establishment with baked goods and a cute photo op board highlighting UPAWS and the Pink Lady Fund.
Our Silver Award wrapped up with a trip up to UPAWS last Thursday. We brought a nice collection of canned goods, old blankets, cat litter, our photo board and the check for $773.04 for the Pink Lady: Hope For Healing Fund.
Ilah, Hailey, Carly, Bre, Sam, Molly, Emilee, Zoey, and Rachel are very grateful for the opportunity to earn this award by partnering with UPAWS.
Thank you!
