Cause for Paws Gala was a Huge Success!

The 2017 Cause for Paws Gala Fundraiser was a record turnout! This year’s event was the most successful Cause for Paws in history, topping last year’s grand total! 220 people attended the sold-out event held on October 13th at the U.P. Masonic Building.  We are always thrilled to team up with another local non-profit, The U.P. Masonic Building for our event.  Golden Retriever Sponsor Knots & Kisses Events transformed the room into a beautiful, elegant, red carpet gala. Attendees celebrated the bond between people and their pets with a fun night out including live music by Iron Daisy, delicious hors d’ouevres by Just Right Catering, a gourmet chocolate tasting by Donckers and Sayklly’s, and specialty drinks served by our volunteer bartenders. We captured the night with keepsake photos on the red carpet designed by Superior Design and photos by UPAWS very own, Ann Brownell. This year’s event featured three stories submitted by UPAWS adopters to the Petco Holiday Wishes Campaign. Each story was about a UPAWS pet and the impact they’ve had on the lives of their adopter.  They also received a specialty drink named after their pet “Miss Margaret’s Kitty Cocktail,” “Kiva’s Hello Pitty Punch,” and “Buster’s Regal Beagle Cider.” Our volunteer live auctioneer, Paul Bonetti had attendees jumping out of their seats for a chance to “Name a Beer After Your Pet” donated by Cognition Brewing Company.  Last year, three individuals named a beer after your pet leaving all attendees in awe!  You can imagine our surprise when not three but FOUR individuals raised their paddles to name a beer after their pet in 2017! We had many other wonderful live and silent auction items as well! There were so many fantastic raffle and auction prizes donated for this event, and so many excited winners!

The community support we received for this event was phenomenal.  Thank you to each person who donated, volunteered, helped advertise, and attended Cause for Paws 2017. Together, we raised over $23,500.00!!! The money raised from this event, will go straight to work in helping our animals find loving forever homes.  Our efforts are not possible without people who donate and volunteer—like all of you!  As I stated at Cause for Paws 2016 and again this year—it takes a village.  Thank you for helping make this fundraiser one of the most successful in UPAWS history!

At the completion of the event Ann Brownell, Community Outreach and Volunteer Coordinator, shared a surprise letter that was sent to her. The letter was dedicated to everyone in the caring community who has adopted, fostered, or sponsored a pet, helped at a fundraiser or at the shelter, donated money or goods to operate the shelter, shared the word of pets for adoption and news about the shelter, and/or contributed to the funding of the new shelter.

To honor everyone who has been a part of this ‘village’ and has worked to make UPAWS a caring and loving temporary home for numerous homeless animals for many years, and to help celebrate even better days ahead as the new shelter moves toward completion, a friend of UPAWS would like to present this check to Kori Tossava for the shelter campaign in the amount of $100,000.”

This announcement was the icing on the cake of a very successful and fun night for UPAWS.  Not only did the animals in our care benefit from the community’s generosity, but this surprise donation to the campaign for a new shelter helps ensure that animals will benefit from our care for many, many years to come in our new home. It was a very emotional and exciting announcement for attendees to be a part of, helping solidify that our dream of a new shelter is indeed a reality.

Thank you to all who donated!
